The ‘F’ word

When Derek first came home from the hospital back in July of 2004, Jenny and I spent the evening at home with him to help him get about, make sure he was taken care of and ensure he was OK his first day back. He spent the better part of the evening eating pizza, drinking alcohol (something he hadn’t done since he was hospitalized more than a year and a half earlier), spending some quality time with The Kids, and playing with his laptop. One of the things he wanted Jenny and I to listen to was a sound file about the “F” word — fuck.
I’ll admit that Jenny and I laughed uproariously as we listened to this PBS-style audio learning course about the word. I just stumbled across it in my e-mail and thought it would be great to share it with you hear.
This is a WAV file and is about 1.14 MB. Listen to it here.

I was checking the weather around the country and saw how cold it was in Buffalo, thought of how much Derek hated the cold. It made me sad, very very sad to think of that. He loved sunshine and warmth, heat even. I think of him alot actually, I wish he could see my house and garden. And I berate myself for not acting sooner and more forcibly, not doing something, maybe there was something I could have said or done…. I just wish I’d grabbed him and hauled him off somehow to the hospital when he was so thin, when I knew he was sick……
