Getting ready…

I’ve not posted in the last several days because I’ve been working on the site move.  I’ve already got the site up and running on the new domain I’m going to use and am just doing some final updates, configuration changes and so on.  I hope to move the site by this weekend.

Welcome message archive – July 7, 2005

An archive of the final welcome message.

welcome to my mind

I do not intend to tiptoe through life only to arrive safely at death.

My name is Jason and this is my synaptic regurgitation.  It’s about life, the universe, and my kids.  There is no master plan, no overriding intent and no ultimate goal with these ramblings.  They are extemporal musings only.

You can learn something about me and my life from what I divulge here.  It centers around my kids (the four cats who are very much in charge around here), my tattoos (those I have and those I intend to get), piercings (again those I have and those I intend to get), working out and trying to build a better body, my experiences, and exercising my free speech by discussing politics, local, national and world events, technology, science, national security, and a host of other topics both mundane and exotic.  Consider it my personal sanity maintenance.

What you read here is real.  I am me.  I have no gimmicks, no lies, no tall tales to tell.  What you see is what you get with me.  That’s the idea behind this site.  It allows me to be open, honest, frank and sincere with you.  If I wanted to tell lies, I’d either run for president or follow in the footsteps of Stephen King and write fiction.

This is my cathartic outlet.  There are things here which may entertain you and yet others which may piss you off.  Remember that the impact on you is collateral damage only as I do not write here with the intent of eliciting particular responses from my readers.  I do, however, welcome all feedback and dialog.

You can always let me know what you think by sending me an email, signing the guestbook, submitting news ideas, or via the comments function on any of the stories posted here.

Bombings in London

Although the news is still coming in at this time, today's significant terrorist attack in London is an appalling example of barbaric and indiscriminate violence.  Whether it was timed to coincide with the G8 summit — a summit to address the poverty situation in Africa — and whether it was carried out by al-Qaida or a related group are both still open questions.  What is known is that the attacks were specifically planned to impact rush hour in order to maximize the carnage.  It does certainly brush aside whatever elation Londoners may have been feeling after being awarded the 2012 Olympics just yesterday.

It's unclear if the bus attack was actually intended for another subway or was timed to catch those escaping the subway attacks.  In either case, the preliminary reports indicate dozens have been killed and hundreds injured.

It's very sad that any person or group would measure success by casualty counts, but this is indeed the world we live in.  It will be even more disheartening should it be proven that this attack was carried out by Islamic terrorists since Islam is a peaceful religion and, for anyone who has actually read and understood it, the Qur'an makes clear that terrorism is unacceptable to Allah.  True Muslims abhor such behavior, as do all reasonable people.

I am understandably concerned with the fact that the same attack vector was utilized in Spain.  In that attack, the terrorists achieved their goals and saw Spain recoil in horror and quickly undergo a significant political shift in response — a political shift which worked in favor of the attackers.

My thoughts are with the people of London, especially those impacted directly by this atrocious act of cowardice.  I can assure you that the people of America, unaware and uninformed though they are, stand behind the UK and its people.

Independence Day 2005

Independence is defined as freedom from control.  America declared its independence as a sovereign nation in the year 1776 when the Declaration of Independence was signed.

In more recent years, we as a people have given up our independence in the name of security.  Now, as the government has learned to enjoy and even thirst for the taste of more and more control over its citizens, we Americans are learning what it’s like to live in a dictatorship with Soviet-style interference in our daily lives and rapidly disappearing freedoms.

Instead of freedom of speech, we have “free speech zones.”  Instead of freedom of religion, we have freedom to follow the conservative Christian movement or be damned.  Instead of a government of the people, by the people, and for the people, we have a self-indulgent theocratic plutocracy.  Instead of being a melting pot of cultures, people and religions, we are a repressive elitist régime which readily forces the beliefs of the few on the many.

Wake up, America.  As you celebrate this Independence Day, stop and ask if you’re really independent anymore.  I can personally assure you that we’re not.  We can commemorate the significance of this date, but we can no longer claim we’re a free people — and we certainly have no right to celebrate our “independence” until we get it back.

Some changes are on the way

I’ve decided to move this site’s content to another domain.  I want to use my named domain for other purposes.

I haven’t worked out all of the details yet and am not ready to announce the new domain name, but I can assure you that this blog is going to move.  This won’t impact anything other than where to go to find my various ramblings (e-mail, IM and other services will not be impacted).

Basically this means that, instead of going to www.my_name.com to get here, you’ll go to www.some-other-domain.com/net/org/ws/name/us/whatever to get here.  As I said, only access to the web content will be impacted.

I’m doing this for a few reasons, none of which are important enough to bore you by trying to explain them.  Let’s just say that privacy and flexibility are the most likely candidates…

I don’t know when this will happen, but I do suspect it will be sooner rather than later.

Obviously I’ll let you know as soon as I’m ready to make the switch and where you’ll want to go once the move is underway.  I just thought it prudent to let you know now since, as I said, I think I’ll be making this move relatively quickly.

Stay tuned…
