A new supernova has been discovered in another galaxy.  Phil explains why it’s an important discovery.

Ancestral Magnitudes by DarkSyde and Aron-Ra (I love that pseudonym!) is an excellent piece of work explaining evolution based on the evidence already available and using generational analysis to equate it to something naysayers can understand: their own ancestors by n generations.  It’s a long read, I admit, but it’s well worth your time if you wish to speak intelligently about the topic from any point of view — advocate and adversary alike.

The Bush Administration wanted to cover up NASA’s report that our own sun will eventually die.  This is scientific fact, not conjecture, and has been known for a long time, so why did they want to hide the news?

There has been a significant update to Einstein’s theory of gravity that could revolutionize our understanding of the universe, especially with regards to Dark Matter.  Oh, but because it’s a theory it must not be true, much like evolution.  The next time I jump in the air I shall surely deny gravity existence because it’s a scientific theory, and I shall therefore fly into the air because a simple theory can not possibly return me to the ground.

Humans recently witnessed the biggest lightning storm ever recorded on Saturn.  “The storm is about 2,175 miles wide (3,500 kilometers).”

Read this response to the horrific denial that there is no AIDS epidemic in Africa.

The Poor Man has a most excellent response to those saying Gore’s speech in Saudi Arabia was akin to treason.  He clarified a lot of what makes that argument horrifically uninformed.  He also covers more than adequately why it is our duty to question and disagree with our government: they work for us, remember?

Grrlscientist has the latest animals discovered during the recent Conservation International expedition to unexplored territory in Indonesia.  There’s some cool stuff here, and she includes plenty of engaging photos.
