Carnival of the Cats #128 is exceptionally replete.

Get your heathen on at the 48th Carnival of the Godless.

Be sure to check out Philosophers Carnival #35.  I realize it’s always highbrow stuff, but that’s the point: thinking about thinking, about being, about the universe, and being thankful for all the fish.  Er… Sorry, I got totally sidetracked there.

Grand Rounds, Volume 2, Number 50 is available and quite extensive, not to mention full of good information.

Finally, Americans are pissed.  Hell, it only took six years…  “Most Americans are angry about ‘something’ when it comes to how the country is run, and they are more likely than in previous years to vote for a challenger this November, a new poll suggests. […] A majority — 55 percent — said they are more likely to back a challenger in races on this year’s ballot.”  Go read the entire poll as the numbers are quite telling.

This is extremely disturbing.  In Ohio, “[a] recently enacted law allows county prosecutors, the state attorney general, or, as a last resort, alleged victims to ask judges to civilly declare someone to be a sex offender even when there has been no criminal verdict or successful lawsuit. […] It would largely treat a person placed on the civil registry the same way a convicted sex offender is treated under Ohio’s so-called Megan’s Law. The person’s name, address, and photograph would be placed on a new Internet database and the person would be subjected to the same registration and community notification requirements and restrictions on where he could live.”  Once you’ve been accused, you must wait six years before attempting to get your name removed.  What a troubling law.  No convinction necessary, folks; all you need do is accuse someone to ruin their life.
