Iraq is part of the War on Terror, huh?

So says the preznit.  And so said many in his administration while the mantra of “Saddam is in bed with al-Qa’ida” permeated the airwaves and political discourse.  But it just ain’t so, at least according to the Senate’s consolidated report from intelligence organizations.  To wit:

Bush administration officials have insisted on a link between the Iraqi regime and [al-Qa’ida] terror leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. Intelligence agencies, however, concluded there was none.

Um, oops.

The GOP POV right now is that Iraq must be a major part of the War on Terror™.  The only reason it is, and something they certainly won’t admit to, is that it’s only a haven for terrorists because we invaded and have given life to a level of disorder which the country had never before known.

Essentially, we created the terrorist threat in Iraq.  We gave them shelter, security, reason, and opportunity.

But guess what else is in the report?

It concludes that postwar findings do not support a 2002 intelligence community report that Iraq was reconstituting its nuclear program, possessed biological weapons or ever developed mobile facilities for producing biological warfare agents.

Same song, same dance, different artist.  That’s all it is.  We know we’ve been lied to time and again.  We know there are still Americans who will deny the evidence, including this latest report, and will claim, like Dubya and his régime, that Saddam was in bed with bin Laden while the two planned for Earth’s destruction with unconventional weaponry that should scare the pants off of even the most devout priest.

Oh, sorry ’bout that.  It obviously takes very little to get a priest to remove his pants.  My bad.
