Vocabularium

Something simple today as I’ve spent most of my time fixing problems created by yesterday’s updates, so I haven’t the inspiration to come up with anything advanced for today’s word.

behest (be·hest): / bi HEST /
noun

(1) an authoritative command, order, or directive
(2) a strongly worded or earnest request; an urgent prompting

[An alteration of Middle English 'biheste' meaning "promise, command," from Old English 'behæs' meaning "promise."]

Usage: Despite her protestations to the contrary, I attended the meeting at the behest of her supervisor.
