Open thread

Talk about being late!  Tomorrow’s Friday and I’m only just now telling you to go look at last week’s Friday Ark #159.  Well, things could be worse: I could have waited until tomorrow and posted links to two of them!  Anyway, go check out last week’s delightful offering of zoological photos and news.  It’s worth your time, I promise.

Chris Clarke has posted a beautifully written explanation of his comment policy.  It’s truly stunning to see how eloquently he explains why he’s chosen the path he’s on in this regard.  It’s the same policy I use here, only I never took the time to explain it with the stunning artistry he utilizes.

Ever heard of an undular bore?  No, I didn’t think so.  It’s a weather phenomenon that is always memorable: a gravity wave moving through the atmosphere.  Take a look at this post from NASA explaining what they are.  You’ll also find an intriguing video of these creations that recently moved over Iowa; in addition, there’s a radar image showing four of them lined up as they moved over the area.

You really must go see this caterpillar.  Cactuspillar indeed. . .  What an unusual creature.
