Each day that I am able to do so, I post a “word of the day” called Vocabularium.  These are drawn directly from my personal vocabulary and new words I stumble upon through extensive reading.

I’ve been told I tend to use too many big words, or am trying to impress people with my vocabulary, or otherwise tend to render some posts nearly unreadable because I fill them with all sorts of confusing language that’s too uncommon to be acceptable.  My hope with Vocabularium is to share a bit of that and enable someone somewhere at some time to perhaps pick up a new word or two.

It’s important to note I will include both words and phrases in these posts.  Not all of them will be English, but the foreign language entries will be based on items accepted in standard American English.

As for the word itself, vocabularium is medieval Latin that means “of words” and is from the original Latin word vocabulum (meaning “name”).

You’re welcome to discuss any of the words by leaving a comment on that specific post.  You’re even invited to give the entry a spin by making up your own usage example.

If you have some suggestions that could be included, please send them.
