Almost two years ago, I posted a video demonstrating Kazon‘s door-opening skills, not to mention Kako‘s proclivity to sit on the sidelines while her brother gets into trouble only to rush in once he provides an opportunity for mischief. He’s much bigger and stronger, after all, and is more likely to gain access to things she couldn’t otherwise get to/into without his help. At the end of that video, once Kazon had the door open and had entered the room, Kako zoomed in from behind me and rushed through the open door behind him. This video picks up immediately following that video.
I was shooting video to see if they would come out once they realized what was behind the door was nothing new (it was only the small laundry room and both had been inside it many times). When they didn’t exit, I tapped my foot. That spurred Kako to decide no fun was to be had and boring closets with laundry machinery had nothing to offer her. Kazon, on the other hand, is not so easily persuaded that the same room over and over again will still offer the same mundane attractions it always has. One can never be too certain that something new hasn’t been introduced that will need thorough investigating… or to be played with. Also, he knows if he waits long enough, Daddy will be forced to come look for him.
[I did have to lighten this a bit, so bear that in mind when considering the grainy and slightly washed-out quality]
This is a quick little video. Kazon was in the kitchen and spied a toy sitting near the cabinets. As one would expect, he prepared to attack, and then he leaped. The fun was short lived. If you listen carefully near the end, you’ll hear the way he asks questions.
[note that I had to lighten the video in all formats because the original was terribly dark, so that explains the washed out appearance in all of them; sorry ’bout that]
Loki and Kazon are buddies (I call the two of them together The Buds). They hang out, they play, they explore, and they generally act like best of friends. Of course, Kazon gets along with everyone because he’s just a kid. But these two have always been close.
I was sitting at my desk one day and they both stopped by. After a drink of water from my glass, they sat next to me quietly. Loki began grooming Kazon, licking his ear and head and generally being very sweet. Don’t be fooled. Loki is not a sweet cat. He’s devious. He can be sweet, don’t get me wrong, yet more often than not, he’s up to something or will pull something to shatter your notion of him being pleasant. This is just such a moment.
Watch him gently grooming Kazon while Kazon is suspicious of the whole thing—still enjoying it, of course, but suspicious nonetheless. He was right to be. Near the end, Loki proves exactly why he can’t be trusted. Chomp!
[yes, the WMV file sucks as usual; both the audio and video are washed out, and that’s the “high quality” setting from MS; crap!; the MOV file is smaller and still is of a much higher quality; oh, and I think it’s extremely hysterical Stephen King’s Storm of the Century is playing in the background]
Kazon follows me everywhere. That’s the first thing you’ll notice in this video as I walk back and forth in the kitchen. It is that part of his need for me that earned him the “Puppy” nickname. He is in every possible way my puppy dog. Second, you’ll notice he’s asking for something with that half-purr-half-meow voice he uses. It is one of many different parts of his communications tool chest. In this case, he wanted either a treat or some attention, and he’s not so finicky as to decline both were they offered. Needless to say, they all got healthy doses of both right after the camera stopped rolling.
This video is in Windows Media Player (WMV) format. It’s 1:14 (one minute and fourteen seconds) in length and is about 3.59 MB (so be prepared for the download if you’re using dial-up).
Remember Kazon havin’ some bottle cap? Well, he’s still doin’ it. I have yet to determine what it is about these little pieces of plastic refuse that intrigues him so, but Kazon still loves them, hits them like coffee and cigarettes right after he awakes, can occupy several minutes of his time when indulging, and otherwise finds some kind of wonderful treat in licking the inside of them ad nauseam. I just don’t get it.
Never one to hide our family’s shameful and embarrassing secrets, here’s another video of Kazon doin’ his thing.
And that’s Grendel who graces us with his visual presence during the making of this film. He was not interested in being on camera; he was only interested in having the cameraman give him some attention. His request was obediently fulfilled.
This video is in Windows Media Player (WMV) format. It’s 0:32 (thirty-two seconds) in length and is about 1 MB (so be prepared for the download if you’re using dial-up).
