Rick, Anthony and I went to see Shark Tale a few weeks ago. We were all craving a lazy afternoon and decided that a movie — specifically this one — would help fill that need.
The movie is quite funny when it’s not dragging slowly from joke to joke. There’s plenty of humor to be enjoyed, though it would have been better had there not been so much unnecessary drama conjoined with the humor in an attempt to create something more than an animated comedy.
If I had to describe Shark Tale in one word, it would have to be "slow." There’s too much time spent waiting for the next punch line while wading through the thick-as-molasses drama. I think too much time was spent trying to develop a story where none was needed.
Is it worth seeing? Yes, it certainly is. Can you wait for it to come out on video instead of going to the theater? Yes. There’s no compelling reason to pay for a theater ticket since the movie is not groundbreaking and contains no visual stimuli better suited to the big screen versus the television screen.
No, I don’t think I wasted my money going to see it in the theater, especially because I was with good friends, but I see no reason that makes seeing it in the theater a must. Wait for it on video and you’ll enjoy it just as much while paying less — and your return on the investment will be higher than if you had seen it on the big screen.
