I've been looking for a way to add snippets of information to my blog without having to introduce a new and complete post. I needed something that would allow me to add brief "asides" for tidbits of information that, in all honesty, didn't warrant the full commotion created by blog entries, including the big title and various pieces of header and footer information displayed with each entry. See the Worlds Within entry just below this one for an example of what I wanted.
I've spent several days looking at WordPress plugins that provide this functionality yet was unable to locate one simple enough for my needs while simultaneously providing the functionality I was looking for. Eventually I became frustrated with the lack of results and developed my own. I now have pretty much what I want after a few hours of work. There are some formatting pieces I'm still tinkering with and will continue to fine-tune for my tastes; I'm otherwise pleased with the results of my effort.
Now, with this feature, I can throw a quick blurb of information on the site with the same ease with which normal posts are created. All I need do is add a post and mark it as an aside; the rest is automatic. The site treats it with special formatting when it's displayed with other posts but will make it look like every other page when viewed using the permalink (archived) copy. They remain included within the normal blog chronology.
