Mark of Tempus Fugit has been named the blogger with the most authority on homosexuality. This is undoubtedly an overwhelming burden, especially for a straight man. And I wonder what Sarah, his girlfriend, must think of all this…
But Mark is a good sport and has taken it in stride. Despite his apparent expertise in this area — a fact which came as a surprise even to Mark — he has decided not to accept this honor as he clearly noted in response to some of the comments he's received: "[…] if elected, I will not serve."
Still, one cannot help but find it all terribly amusing and, even more important, an example of why Technorati and other aggregators of blog metrics are only as good as the information fed into them by the blogging community. In this particular case, stacking his metrics (through tag overuse, incorrect use or abuse) resulted in pure entertainment for the whole family. Sadly, it also means that anyone using these sources to find blogs will be presented with skewed information and may ultimately give up their search due to frustration.
Obviously we've learned nothing from Google.
