Have you read about the latest severe Windows flaw?  This one is significant as you only need to view an image (via a web browser, for instance) for the flaw to be exploited.

As much as I hate Bush and think he has turned America into what we hate most — a police state with a government running over the Constitution and violating our rights all in the name of security — Atrios brings me to the shocking reality of what is essentially a miltary coup.

Relatedly, check out this post over at Pharyngula about the NSA spying on Americans illegally (at the behest of illegal orders from Bush).

Carnival of the Cats #93 is up and running.

Circus of the Spineless #4 is also available.

There’s always the God or Not carnival.

PZ Meyers offers a compelling and excellent response to David Smillie’s If God is great, why is he such a bad designer? (also a worthy read).  Intelligent design is such a farce…

Speaking of intelligent design, prosecutors are seeking perjury evidence against ID advocates who testified in the Dover, PA, case.  Considering the judge took them to task for being liars, I think this is a good thing even though I suspect it will cause a significant escalation in the battle over ID.  Still, if the idiots who support this false notion see that lying about it has consequences, they’ll be forced to offer true scientific evidence to support their claims — and that’s something they’re unable to do because there is no scientific evidence to support ID.

Brent Rasmussen offers another compelling argument against this ID silliness: If we’re descended from apes, why are there still apes?

Despite their three-month lifespan, the Mars rovers are still going after two years.  This is a great triumph for NASA, and they continue to be important tools for science.
