I’m not a football fan. Those who know me will readily tell you that I prefer rugby because its players are not overpaid weaklings who need to wear all manner of protective gear to play the very same contact sport. That’s why I’ve always called it “rugby for wimps”. I also dislike football because it bears selfish men who practice wanton greed while considering themselves some manner of heroic. It’s laughable and disgusting.
To make football even more hysterically foul, so many players vent their religious faith as the cause for victory. I literally cringe whenever some overly padded mindless nitwit gives their god credit for helping them score a touchdown, winning or otherwise.
Let’s put our thinking caps on for a moment, shall we?
If your deity won’t intervene to stop a tsunami or an earthquake from killing hundreds of thousands of people, and he allows innocent children to die every day from famine and disease and abuse, and he allows the suffering and death of humans around the globe from bodies that don’t work properly or infections that can not be stopped or the angry outreach of murderers, I doubt he has time to help you win a stupid game that serves no other purpose than to pad the wallets of selfish men.
No, I take offense at the very idea that anyone would claim they prevailed in sports because their god reached down and assisted them miraculously. If such a deity did exist, and I certainly believe that none do, it would not be prudent to assume that god would be at all interested in the victor of a competition if it’s demonstrable that the same deity won’t get off his ass to stop the death and suffering of millions of people around the world. You essentially are saying that your god will help you win a football game while ignoring the critically important stuff.
I won’t be watching the Super Bowl today. I don’t care if I miss the cool commercials. I’d rather have a root canal than suffer my brain the degrading experience of an inferior sport played by idiots who think they worship a god that finds joy in letting humans suffer while helping someone win a meaningless trophy. What pathetically small people. More importantly, how inept and evil their god must be.
