Despite my desire to see The Fog in theaters, I eventually decided against it because it received such horrid critic and viewer responses. I realized at that time that I would be wasting my money to go see it. When it finally came out on video, I rented it and afterward came to the conclusion that I had still wasted my money.
This is a remake that should not have been made. It’s a horrible violation of the original, a disappointing mess which has no creativity, intrigue or fright. It lacks any of the original mystery. More importantly, it lacks any semblance of suspense. At no time during the film was I on the edge of my seat. Instead, I yawned and twiddled my thumbs from beginning to end, constantly wondering when the horror part of the movie was going to show up.
Don’t waste your time on this obtuse piece of less-than-marginal rubbish. It’s an utter and complete waste of time and a veritable disappointment in every way conceivable. There was no terror while trying to escape the fog. The special effects were childish and inadequate. The story was raped and turned into a movie more appropriate for teaching film students what not to do. Sure, Tom Welling is always worth seeing in pretty much anything, but this movie does both him and the original 1980 release a grave injustice.
If you want to see The Fog, go rent the original instead. Just don’t waste your time with the newest inept rendition.
