I mentioned the Bush appointment to NASA: George Deutsch, a juvenile 24-year-old who was given authority to control what information came from all of the scientists in the government agency, and this despite his lack of scientific credentials.  According to Deutsch’s résumé, he received a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Texas A&M.  Like Brownie over FEMA, Deutsch’s appointment to NASA appeared to be independent of his experience in the scientific field — experience which did not exist.

Much to Bush’s chagrin, and certainly to Deutsch’s, it was discovered, again like Brownie before him, that what his résumé said and what is true are two entirely different things.  Texas A&M has confirmed that he dropped out and did not receive a degree.  Therefore, Bush put another lying, under-qualified nitwit in charge, this time over a bunch of scientists with the intent to censor them and control the information they shared with the world at large.

Deutsch has now resigned from NASA in response to the revelation that his résumé was falsified and the growing outrage that his sole mission was to ensure that scientists pushed religion.  His first directive to them was to ensure that creationism was a part of their findings and results shared with the public.  He was nothing more than another strategic placement by Dubya to skew the facts and deceive the world.  His exit from the agency plays into its original promise for open and full disclosure of science.  Deutsch’s initial steps made him contradictory to the agency’s mission, something Bush didn’t realize because he was too busy making sure no one would realize he appointed yet another dishonest and unqualified idiot.

In the wake of his resignation, NASA is now vowing reforms in how they disclose scientific information, promising to get politics out of the way of facts and discoveries coming from the agency’s scientists.  We’ll see.

Ultimately, I’m incensed by the whole situation.  Bush demonstrated that he wants the truth modified to fit his agenda.  He demonstrated that he is still supporting liars and eager to place them in positions of power within his régime.  Most importantly, he demonstrated that his support of creationism overrides the facts and that science is to be violated in any way possible to ensure dogma is taught as fact rather than mythology.
