Remember the report that Exxon Mobil earned record profits last year? The other big oil companies are also raking in more than you could count in a lifetime. Remember who’s pockets those profits are coming out of?
Given that disgusting display of greed and screwing the little guy to line their own pockets, someone explain to me why our government is giving — GIVING! — them oil and gas from public lands worth $65 billion over five years? Since they don’t have to pay the government any royalties, the windfall giveaway could be worth as much as $7 billion to the oil companies.
The federal government is on the verge of one of the biggest giveaways of oil and gas in American history, worth an estimated $7 billion over five years.
New projections, buried in the Interior Department’s just-published budget plan, anticipate that the government will let companies pump about $65 billion worth of oil and natural gas from federal territory over the next five years without paying any royalties to the government.
Excuse the living hell out of me! First, that’s public land, and that means it’s owned by us, the American taxpayers, the same people already getting screwed by big oil and who apparently are getting the shaft yet again — this time by big oil and the government that appears to reside in their collective pockets.
As California Democrat Representative George Miller said, “It’s one of the greatest train robberies in the history of the world.” Just remember that the American people are the folks being robbed, and we’re being robbed by companies that already are robbing us blind.
