Humanizing homosexuals?

Bill O’Reilly is truly one of the most evil, hateful and bigoted people on the planet.  I tend to ignore him as much as possible as his incendiary comments generally are intended to stoke the fires of hatred and intolerance, not to mention the man is more apt to lie than tell the truth, even when the truth is already known and publicly available.  He is, for lack of a better term, full of Billshit.

Why am I discussing him now?  In response to Brokeback Mountain, Bill said, “The problem with movies like Brokeback Mountain is that they humanize homosexuals, okay?”

I beg your pardon?  Humanizing homosexuals?  We certainly can’t let that happen, right?  After all, if we see them as people, next they’ll want to drink from the same water fountains as everyone else, to vote, to have hospital visitation rights, to be able to enter into contracts and agreements, to own property, to be protected from loss of life, to enjoy the same rights and protections as other people, and — here’s the big one — to be treated like humans.  Equal rights?  Bah!  Those are for humans, not homosexuals, so let’s not humanize the homos lest we find ourselves forced to acknowledge they deserve equal protection under the law.  Remember, that will surely lead to gay marriage, and gay marriage, as we’ve all been told, would signify the downfall of civilized society and humanity as a whole.

The man is so terribly offensive that, like Pat Robertson, he sounds like a broken record of nonsensical bigotry.  He endorses intolerance with ignorance.  He, dear poppets, is the one who needs to be humanized, but that would indeed be a difficult if not impossible task to accomplish.

I am not the only one who took offense at this particular betrayal of true morality.  The best response thus far has to be this open letter to him from the mother of a gay son.  Go read it.  It’s certainly worth five minutes of your time to see what she had to say.  It reminds me very much of this letter I found and posted more than two years ago.
