Hubble captures some stunning photos of Jupiter’s Red Spots.  Check out the “Image Options” box on the left to see the photos.  Very cool.

It’s Weekend Cat Blogging #48.  Need I explain yet again?

The 111th Carnival of the Cats has some great photos as usual, and you’ll find a lot more in the linked material.

I agree with amba on this one: the Democrats need to be very careful with that kind of “payback is hell” approach to the elections.  If they are seen as driving to win the election with no plans other than to seek vengeance against Bush et al, they’ll fail and I’ll be one of the people voting against them.  Come up with a real plan on national security, disaster response, the Middle East, Iraq and Iran, social services, abortion, gay rights, and so on.  Pick some real issues, not just the deep desire to kick Dubya’s butt.

PZ‘s daughter is cool in my book.  I know a lot of self-deluding adults who could learn quite a bit from that child.

Birds in the News 57 (v2n8) has a plethora of avian news.  As always, there are fantastic photos to enjoy as well (check out the eagle landing, another pygmy owl with a human hand to demonstrate its size, and the spotted owl preparing for flight).

And finally a major bitchslap for government idiots proclaiming the dangers of brain damage from marijuana use.  Our newest and most advanced medical imaging system shows that’s a blatant lie.  The study “found no significant differences in brain integrity and brain volume between cannabis smokers and non-smokers. This preliminary study suggests that moderate cannabis use has no direct adverse effects on brain structure and integrity.”
