I didn’t see that one coming

Laura Bush, the too oft silent partner of our dear leader, King George, spoke her mind to Fox News recently.  Although what she had to say won’t help the Republicans to energize their radical fundamental base that’s rabidly seeking to implement discrimination as part of our sacred Constitution, she did give hope to many by saying homosexuals should not be used as campaign fodder.

The first lady told “Fox News Sunday” that she thinks the American people want a debate on the issue. But, she said, “I don’t think it should be used as a campaign tool, obviously.”

“It requires a lot of sensitivity to just talk about the issue — a lot of sensitivity,” she said.

It will be interesting to see what impact, if any, this has on the related discourse.  Frisk-me-and-fist-me Frist intends to push the amendment legislation next month when it’s again discussed on the Hill.  He offers the same tired rhetoric: [insert sound of baby crying uncontrollably] “Wah! Marriage is under attack in this country. Wah! Wah! Woe is us. Wah! Marriage is a state-sponsored institution that should only be available to those who are like me and no one else. Wah! Screw that equal protection bullshit…”

You know how it goes.  I’m just glad Laura had the sense and decency to speak out on the topic contrary to what her handlers desire.  Maybe she’s not just a chocolate Easter bunny (sweet and pretty on the outside, hollow and featureless on the inside).
