To continue the memorialization of Derek on this two-year anniversary of his death, I am posting below the fold the entries from his online funeral guestbook. Aside from removing last names and other identifiable information, they are included here as originally written.

Remembering two years later
Today marks two years since Derek’s death. In memory…
Derek, 1967 – 2004
I reiterate what I said to his family just a week before: “As the Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore once said, ‘Death is not the extinguishing of the light… it is the putting out of the lamp because the dawn has come.'”
Let me finish with Victor Hugo’s words as I pointed out in this sentiment: “Have courage for the great sorrows of life and patience for the small ones; and when you have laboriously accomplished your daily task, go to sleep in peace.”

Hobbes: “Not yet.”
Calvin: “Well, keep your eyes open, they’re bound to land here sometime.”
Hobbes: “What will we do when they come?”
Calvin: “See if we can sell mom and dad into slavery for a star cruiser.”
