Sometimes there’s great entertainment in the spam I receive. I get it via e-mail as much as I get it submitted as comments to the site. Here’s an example of poorly targeted spam that was just submitted as a comment. You’ll see why this kind of marketing is terribly amiss in finding the right audience.
Don’t you wish you could attract all the most gorgeous women around you each day? Its [sic] easier then [sic] you think. A few dabs of [pheromones] will have women fighting over you.
Scientifically proven to work- pheromones have been used for years now to attract women. Don’t be at a disadvantage anymore- pheromones will help any male attract women of all types and ages.
Don’t be left behind! Millions of men are already benefiting from using pheromons [sic] to attract women- without them you are at a disadvantage! Don’t let the other guy get the girl, [sic] arm yourself with [pheromones] tonight!
If YOU would like to …
– Become a lot more sexually attractive.
– Meet more beautiful women, MUCH more easily.
– Grab the attention [sic] and get approached by women far more often.
– Make a fantastic, memorable, compelling impression , [sic] every time.
– Increase your self-confidence and masculinity BIG-time [sic], then this may be the most important news you will read all year.
I’ve redacted the name of the product since I’m not providing free advertising.
The most obvious problem with this piece of crap is that I’m gay and disinterested in attracting women of all ages and types—period. Beyond that, it makes claims that are profoundly illegal and misleading. That entire last section of bullet items is one criminal claim after another. The “scientifically proven to work” sentence is also illegal. Of course, technically the entire thing is illegal because it’s scientifically unfounded and unproven and unsupported by research and public studies. Beyond that, it’s just bad marketing with all the typos and poor grammar, not to mention the lack of intelligence behind targeting me with something aimed at promoting the attraction of women to men. Now, when the spam shows up touting a similar product aimed at attracting men…
