The Klein sexual orientation grid

I don’t remember who I mentioned this to in the recent past, but because it was fresh on my mind, I thought I’d go ahead and post this quiz for my regular Friday feature.  While the test is short and simple to take, it hinges entirely on honesty and understanding (for each category and each answer).

As I’ve told many people in the past, the truth of human sexuality is that very few people are entirely heterosexual or homosexual.  Most fall between those two extremes with tendencies toward one end of the scale or the other.  This is normal and can be seen in a great many species on our planet (more than 1,500 to date).  Unfortunately, too few are willing to be honest about how they feel and therefore assume they are one of the two extremes, and that despite such a thing being the exception and not the rule.

You’re welcome to take the quiz and post your results if you like.  On the other hand, I’d prefer you take the quiz and not post them as opposed to not taking the quiz at all.  It’s more important for you to know the results than it is for the rest of the world to know them.

Klein Sexual Orientation Grid

I scored an average of 4.57

0 1 2 3 4 5 6
Heterosexual Bisexual Homosexual

Meaning

This result can also be related to the Kinsey Scale:

0 = exclusively heterosexual
1 = predominantly heterosexual, incidentally homosexual
2 = predominantly heterosexual, but more than incidentally homosexual
3 = equally heterosexual and homosexual
4 = predominantly homosexual, but more than incidentally heterosexual
5 = predominantly homosexual, incidentally heterosexual
6 = exclusively homosexual

Summary

The idea of this excercise is to understand exactly how dynamic a person’s sexual orientation can be, as well as how fluid it can be over a person’s lifespan. While a person’s number of actual homo/heterosexual encounters may be easy to categorize, their actual orientation may be completely different. Simple labels like “homosexual”, “heterosexual”, and “bisexual” need not be the only three options available to us.
