Vocabularium

This word certainly has not applied to me over the past eleven days.  In fact, the very idea of it has often turned my stomach due to the The Plague’s vicious grip on my body.  Nevertheless, I feel this word is a bit timely, if not a bit belated, given the New Year’s holiday.

bibulous (bib·u·lous): / BIB yuh luhs /
adjective

(1) tending to drink alcohol, especially to excess; fond of or addicted to alcoholic beverages
(2) of or relating to the consumption of alcoholic beverages
(3) spongy or absorbent

[From Latin bibulus from bibere meaning “to drink.”]

Usage: The bibulous fellow appeared quite humorous when inebriated, yet surprisingly, his personality seemed drained of all wit and sparkle when sober.
