Today’s Astronomy Picture of the Day is a fantastic view of Comet McNaught as seen from Spain.  Not only is the comet a sight to behold, but the photograph was taken from a mountaintop, so the entire scene from above the clouds is spectacular.

After a long hiatus, Birds in the News is back.  Check out Birds in the News 66 (v2n17) for a plethora of avian news and photos.  There are some great pictures in this edition.  Unfortunately, it also includes some upsetting news about an idiot shooting the last male golden eagle in Italy.  But it’s not all bad news, and there’s even a bit about the recent mass bird death in Austin, Texas.
