God’s gay child. It’s a letter to the editor. It’s short, sweet, and to the point. Go read it. I mean that—go read it now. It’ll take you all of 30 seconds, and if you have any tiny amount of humanity in your bones, you’ll be better for it. [via The Journal of Left of Center Thinking via Gay orbit]

Birds in the News 67 (v2n18) has lots of interesting avian news and photos. That first picture of the sleeping flamingos is captivating in its simplicity. There’s also some recent updates on the H5N1 avian flu.
Major oops in Michigan: “In a ruling sure to make philandering spouses squirm, Michigan’s second-highest court says that anyone involved in an extramarital fling can be prosecuted for first-degree criminal sexual conduct, a felony punishable by up to life in prison. ‘We cannot help but question whether the Legislature actually intended the result we reach here today,’ Judge William Murphy wrote in November for a unanimous Court of Appeals panel, ‘but we are curtailed by the language of the statute from reaching any other conclusion.’ ‘Technically,’ he added, ‘any time a person engages in sexual penetration in an adulterous relationship, he or she is guilty of CSC I,’ the most serious sexual assault charge in Michigan’s criminal code.” The state legislature screwed up the language in the bill, so the court had to enforce it as written. I imagine that will change quickly. [via Pam’s House Blend]
And here’s the hypocritical side of the issue: Conservatives are now screaming that the law and the courts should stay out of relationships, sexual or otherwise, between consenting adults when no one is being harmed. Huh… Isn’t that interesting. When it’s a homosexual relationship between consenting adults, they’re all about passing laws and limiting rights, but when it hits close to home… Well, the shoe’s on the other foot and they’re screaming bloody murder. But I assure you not a single one of them sees it as hypocrisy to castigate the judiciary and the legislature for meddling in the personal affairs (literally) of heterosexuals while simultaneously asking those same public servants to curtail all legal protections and recognition of the personal affairs of homosexuals.
