Again I say we don’t understand global warming

What if cleaning the air and reducing pollutants actually increases global warming?  Would you still believe the panic about man being solely responsible for the now undeniable changes happening in our climate?

Ahem.

Dare I point out that I have continually said that global warming is occurring, yet the mechanics of the phenomenon remain unverifiable and misunderstood.  Failing a demonstrable understanding of climate prediction, we continue to cry wolf at every opportunity.  As I said to Jenny yesterday during a related conversation, I believe the pendulum now has been pushed too far in the direction of a dramatic climate shift.  A cascade of events is now in motion that may well mean we are on an irreversible course toward a significant shift in Earth’s global weather, and I believe it will change for the worse in the next several decades.

I do still think it critically important for humans to take immediate action with the hope of at least minimizing our impact on the process.  Despite such an action, however, I do not believe it possible for us to reverse the course our planet is now on.  Mechanisms well beyond our control and understanding are already in play.  The best we can probably hope for is to ensure we do not exacerbate the situation, and that somehow the climate will correct itself more quickly or will otherwise change less dramatically as a result.  Any belief that we can stop it from changing at all is mere folly.

Remember, our planet has gone through these kinds of processes many times in its life.  Ice ages came and went, hot spells came and went, and the climate has changed both slowly and rapidly, and all of this happened long before humans walked the earth.
