Our government wants more authority to break the law. While they appear to be doing that just fine, not to mention violating the most sacred tenets of the US Constitution, Department of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff feels it’s not enough.
The nation’s chief of homeland security said Sunday that the U.S. should consider reviewing its laws to allow for more electronic surveillance and detention of possible terror suspects, citing last week’s foiled plot.

“What helped the British in this case is the ability to be nimble, to be fast, to be flexible, to operate based on fast-moving information,” he said. “We have to make sure our legal system allows us to do that. It’s not like the 20th century, where you had time to get warrants.”
What the fuck is that supposed to mean? The 21st century brings with it challenges to which our nation’s founding principles are ill adapted? Unable to cope? Inconvenient?
And don’t worry about the fact that America pushed the British to move far more quickly than they wanted to, thereby endangering the world by allowing suspects to escape long before the terror plot was even ready to enact.
Our officials find all laws and the US Constitution to be nothing more than inconveniences. They want to do away with what makes America great so they can rapidly move us to the despotic government model to which they all seem drawn.
The Bush administration has pushed for greater executive authority in the war on terror, leading it to create a warrantless eavesdropping program, hold suspects who are deemed as “enemy combatants” for long periods and establish a military tribunal system for detainees that affords defendants fewer rights than traditional courts-martial.
To their dismay, constitutional protections and separation of powers both have become enemies.
Congress is now reviewing some of the programs after lawmakers questioned the legality of the eavesdropping program and the Supreme Court ruled in June that the tribunals defied international law and had not been authorized by Congress.
Welcome to the new Soviet Union, poppets. You are giving up all of your liberties and rights, all the things that made America the land of promise, hope, and freedom. And most of you are doing it willingly or ignorantly, or both.
Stupid Americans indeed…
Meanwhile, the GOP is busy destroying everything our country stands for, and the Democrats are standing by idly twiddling their thumbs and fretting publicly without taking a single definitive step to offer better alternatives that will secure our nation without spitting in the eye of Lady Liberty.
Police state? Sure! Rights and freedoms? I think not. Constitutional protections? Toss them out the window. Theocratic dictatorship and world bully? That’s the new America I’m talkin’ about.
The road upon which we travel is fraught with peril. The vast majority of that danger is domestic and personal. Civil rights are becoming things of the past. Constitutional protections are fodder for goose-stepping feet. Government by and of the people is but a memory.
As I have said on many occasions, the United States is heading for a civil war. It will be evident no later than 2012 assuming our present course is not aborted in the immediate future. It will be the government against the people, the military against citizens, the clueless against the concerned, and America’s dictatorship against all other nations. Too many partisan assholes fail to see the dangers presented by this administration and its policies. Instead, because it’s their party, they support all endeavors regardless of consequence.
The melting pot has become a fire by which all shall burn, starting with any who voice or are suspected of dissent, moving rapidly to those who will not support theocratic government, and immediately taking aim at everyone else. Earth is at threat. Our nation is the weapon that will destroy it.
