The dirty thirty meme

To keep posting lite today in honor of a relaxed Friday (not to mention the day after Thanksgiving when gluttony continues interfering with mental processes), I’m absconding with this meme from Coturnix.  It’s a nice diversion.  You’re welcome to join in via the comments if you’re so inclined.

1. In two words, explain what ended your last relationship?
Growing apart.

2. When was the last time you shaved your legs?
Never.  I considered it once when I was doing a great deal of swimming, but I didn’t go through with it.

3. What were you doing this morning at 8am?
Feeding The Kids and giving them their good-morning lovin’.

4. What were you doing 15 minutes ago?
Writing this open thread.

5. Are you any good at math?
Quite good (it was one of my two double-majors).

6. Your prom night?
It was a wonderful evening with great friends followed by an all-night party sponsored by a close friend’s mother; don’t tell anyone, but she even provided the alcohol.  Her attitude was it was prom night, we probably would find a way to drink anyway, and she felt better knowing we were safe at her house doing it where we wouldn’t be out on the road or otherwise in danger/trouble.  Even the father of my date knew it was a special night.  He owned a popular French café in the rich part of town and asked us to stop there on our way to the dance so we could enjoy a relaxing glass of wine while he got to enjoy seeing his daughter all gussied up and lookin’ mighty purty with a smooth-talkin’ gentleman who would ensure she had a wonderful evening.

7. Do you have any famous relatives?
Not that I’m aware of.

8. Have you ever taken out a loan to pay for school?
No.

9. Do you know the words to your MySpace song?
I don’t have a MySpace page or song, and I’d prefer to keep it that way.

10. Last thing you received in the mail?
A financial statement for my IRA.

11. How many different beverages have you drank today?
Two so far: coffee and water.  Later, I’ll add a third: beer.

13. Who did you lose your concert virginity to?
Depeche Mode.

14. Do you draw your name in the sand when you go to the beach?
I have in the past, but I haven’t done it in a decade or more.

15. What’s the most painful dental procedure you’ve had?
Having all four of my wisdom teeth extracted.  I have a high drug tolerance and anesthetics often stop working much sooner than expected, so dental work is a real chore because it’s always in the middle of the procedure when I begin feeling things.  Also, the wisdom teeth procedure caused the most pain after the work was done.

16. What is out your back door?
My patio.

18. Do you like the ocean?
I love it.  Love it, I say!

19. Have you ever received one of those big tins of 3 different kinds of popcorn for Christmas?
Yes.  I happen to love popcorn and find those tins enjoyable despite their white-trash reputation.

20. Have you ever been to a planetarium?
Many times starting almost three decades ago, and I still enjoy going when I have the opportunity.

22. Something you are excited about?
Writing.

23. What is your favorite flavor of JELLO?
Cherry, but it’s my favorite only because I use it in a cake recipe.  By itself, grape would be my favorite.

24. Are any of your great-grandparents still alive?
No.

25. Describe your keychain?
I have two.  One is a church key; the other is just the metal hoop found on most standard key chains.

26. Where do you keep your change?
In a plastic tub hidden in the kitchen cabinets.  When it’s full, I usually give it to my mother since she enjoys numismatism (coin-centered).

27. When was the last time you spoke in front of a large group?
For business: eight months ago on several conference calls during my last week, including my good-bye call with all of my employees; in person: ten months ago during a security meeting.  Personal: a few days ago at Starbucks with my regular group of friends who meet there in the mornings.

28. What kind of winter coat do you have?
I have seven (I’m gay; what did you expect?): black leather motorcycle jacket, black leather Kenneth Cole blazer, blue-and-red Reebok jacket, light blue Abercrombie & Fitch bomber, dark earthen-green Dockers military parka, tan-and-black wool Abercrombie & Fitch outdoorsman (like an overly-heavy flannel shirt), and beige hooded military parka.

29. What do you think of the person you copied this from?
He’s a scientist, so he already has my respect.  His expertise in circadian rhythms is intriguing for it’s an area I knew little about before I started reading his blog.  He’s also from Yugoslavia and therefore has a unique perspective I find refreshing.

30. Do you sleep with the door to your room open or closed?
Open.  The Kids roam in and out of all the rooms and a closed door is an immediate challenge (one which none of them will refuse).
