Today’s Astronomy Picture of the Day is a fantastic image of an aurora as seen over Iowa just last week.

Today’s Earth Science Picture of the Day is also a compelling image, this time of the San Andreas fault and how movement of the plates has offset a creek that runs perpendicular to the fault.  Take a look at it and you’ll see not only the present offset of the creek, but you can also see the previous offset that is much further away.
