Vocabularium

I love this word because it somehow provides a certain image that’s easily associated with the action or object, as though someone doing this can be seen twitching and gesturing madly… or something like that.

kvetch (kvetch): / kvech /
intransitive verb

(1) to complain, especially incessantly or chronically; to gripe constantly

noun

(1) somebody who complains incessantly or chronically; a constant whiner
(2) a nagging complaint

[From Yiddish kvetshn (“to squeeze, pinch”) and kvetsh (“squeezer, pincher”), from Middle High German Quetsche (“crusher”) and quetschen (“to crush, squeeze”).]

Usage: You know they’ll kvetch the whole way there and back, so let’s not invite them this time.
