Vocabularium

I’m always intrigued by words that have no definitive etymology.

cosset (cos·set): / KOS it /
transitive verb

(1) to coddle or pamper; to treat as a pet

noun

(1) a pet lamb; a lamb raised without its dam
(2) any pet

[Etymology uncertain, although it is possibly derived from Anglo-Norman coscet meaning “lamb reared by hand or pet lamb,” from Old English ‘cotsæta’ meaning “cottage-dweller.”]

Usage: I bet no one thinks I cosset The Kids.
