Vocabularium

Because I’ve had my share lately…

solicitude (so·lic·i·tude): / suh LIS i tood /
noun

(1) worry, anxiety, unease, or concern; the state of being solicitous
(2) a cause for worry, concern, anxiety, or unease (normally used in the plural)
(3) attentiveness, protectiveness, concern, and consideration, especially when excessive and expressed

[From Middle English from Latin sollicitudo meaning “uneasiness of mind,” from sollicitus meaning “completely moved, agitated, troubled,” from sollus (“whole”) + citus (past participle of ciere meaning “to move, arouse”).]

Usage: Even the promise of starting a job in two days fails to lessen the solicitudes now smothering me, but in time I shall witness their demise.
