Some of that film was actually good?

Out of the six rolls of film discovered during the move, two were totally useless (exposure to sunlight or too old or something else).  Four of the rolls had pictures on them, though, and almost all of the pictures came out.  Amazing!  There are pics of The Kids from 1999 through 2003 (the last pictures on the roll that I burned so we could get them developed), so I'll be scanning those and getting them up here as time permits.  There were also pictures from a trip to Dinosaur Valley State Park here in Texas (the trip was in August of 1999) and pictures from my roommate's trips to San Francisco and Washington DC (both also from 1999).  Amazing that we had misplaced all of this film only to rediscover it in 2003.  Also of interest is that I've taken more pics of The Kids and have also taken some pics of myself to post here (that last part may or may not happen depending on the quality of the pics — mainly because I hate having my picture taken and may wait until I have developed more muscle mass before I post body shots).  Anywho, I'll get all of these scanned as quickly as possible so I can post them here.

I wonder what’s on these again

As I mentioned before, we found three rolls of film while preparing to move that had not been developed.  Well, now there are five rolls (possibly six, although one may have been left out in the sun).  The extra rolls turned up during the move.  I'm burning the last few pictures on the final roll and will get them developed ASAP to see what's on them.  I think there are pics of The Kids, but I'm not confident that they're all of The Kids.  We'll see, though, as I'm quite curious to find out what's on them.  If anything is presentable, you can bet I'll post them here.

Veterinary medicine could save your life

I've paid for hip surgery for Grendel, multiple urinary tract infection treatments for Kako, upper respiratory infection treatments for both Kako and Kazon, long term asthma treatment for Grendel, geriatric treatment for Henry, and the list goes on.  My pets have always been a part of my family.  They are my children.  I do not "own" them just as human families don't own their offspring.  I am the guardian of my pets, and I care for them in that regard.  Given the medical treatment I've been willing to pay for to keep the quality of life high for The Kids and other pets, I found this article on Wired to be extremely fascinating.  It's about veterinary medicine pushing the envelope of science — often to the benefit of regular medicine.

What’s ailing Kako?

Poor Kako has been quite ill the last few days.  For the third time in her life, she’s suffering from what the vet called a “raging” urinary tract infection.  Poor thing; as if being the only female in the house wasn’t bad enough, now she has to deal with this.  According to her doctor, she’s simply prone to these kinds of infections.  Despite having her pH tested regularly, she always waits until she’s in absolute agony before showing any symptoms (this time landing us in the emergency vet at 1:00 AM after screaming like a banshee).  So it’s back on antibiotics again.  After a terrible start to the week, she’s feeling much better now and is almost back to her regular self.  Just wait until she realizes she has another eight days on the pills.  Not gonna be happy…
