Waiting on Zooomr

Zooomr, my regular image hosting service, is presently undergoing a major face lift and upgrade.

While I’m waiting on it to be available again, I’m using Flickr to host images.

That means you can’t see the larger images linked to by each photo.

I promise to move them over to Zooomr as soon as the service is available again, after which you’ll be able to view the original pictures.

In the meantime, I think some lunch sounds like a marvelous idea.

And an adult beverage.

Smudge

Since I visited the family farm yesterday and spent some time with the various felines, I thought I’d share some photos of Smudge.  He’s the eldest of the three cats who work and play in our East Texas refuge.  He’s also a big lovable kid who—I believe—still misses Smartie, his brother.

Taken during my visit on April 1, here he is making his way toward some lovin’.  The moment he realized we were all outside, he rushed from his hiding place and made a beeline for our position.

I stepped outside during yesterday’s visit while the dogs were out and about for a bit of play and a nature break.  When we headed back to the house, Smudge had taken up a position on the steps where he undoubtedly would be seen and would therefore get some lovin’.  While he waited, a nap sounded like a brilliant idea.

Don’t forget to visit Friday Ark #140 for a boatload of weekend animal fun.

When we need all the Arab linguists we can get, the military continues discharging those who are gay.  “‘At a time when our military is stretched to the limit and our cultural knowledge of the Middle East is dangerously deficient, I just can’t believe that kicking out able, competent Arabic linguists is making our country any safer,’ [Democratic Rep. Marty] Meehan said.”  The Democrats are finally submitting a bill to get rid of DADT.

This is too close to home.  “A Denver Zoo monkey has died of bubonic plague, apparently after eating a squirrel stricken with the disease, Colorado health and zoo officials said on Monday. Five squirrels and a rabbit found dead on zoo grounds tested positive for the flea-borne disease in recent weeks, Denver Zoo spokeswoman Ana Bowie said.”

[northern mockingbirds (Mimus polyglottos); the first photo shows one leaping from the tree after it had tended to the hatchling who’d climbed out of the nest far too soon; the second shows one as it attempted to frighten me away from where I stood watching the goings on this morning; you can tell from the second photo that it’s been raining all morning]
