Pay close attention to the Iran situation

How does a nuclear war sound to you?  What do you think would happen if we used a preemptive nuclear strike against Iran?  What you may not realize is the U.S. government is seriously considering just such a move.  Rest assured it would bring death and destruction to American soil on a scale heretofore never considered possible, not to mention causing World War III with terrorism (including nuclear, biological, radiological, and chemical weapons) playing a significant role in the conflict.

I realize, of course, that Iran historically supported and armed terrorists around the globe, so do not misunderstand my concern about America’s plans with a lack of interest in what might happen if the Iranian nuclear program successfully creates atomic weapons.  There is no doubt they would hand such devices down through the terrorist networks, and those weapons would be used against Western interests, including the United States proper.  This is a significant cause for concern and requires action and remedying.  Despite this, does anyone think George Bush is the man to lead such a campaign given the Afghan and Iraq disasters?

The use of diplomatic avenues must be fervently and exhaustively pursued before any military action is taken, yet ample evidence exists, including Britain’s advanced talks about a strike, to suggest we are well beyond talking about an attack and have swiftly moved to serious consideration of a nuclear strike.  Bush wants Iran dealt with before he leaves office, yet that cannot be acceptable if military action is the result.  There are major considerations for action and inaction as Iran poses a threat the likes of which the administration wanted Iraq to represent so as to justify war.  Sadly, again, Bush is not the man to deal with the threat given his record to date on such activities.

I am quite afraid for America and the rest of the world.  That fear comes both from the threat Iran represents and the horrific situation America is likely to create should Dubya take action, especially if such action is as severe as a nuclear strike.  Such a move would really piss off the billions of Muslims throughout the world, not to mention Arabs around the globe, and it would alienate all of our allies and friends and possibly make them our enemies.  Any action against Iran must be a coordinated and agreed upon effort by the world at large (although I do not advocate dragging our feet because of Chinese or Russian financial interests that make them weary of taking action).  What I fear most is Bush ordering an attack — especially using atomic weapons — with the same arbitrary and reckless abandon used with Iraq.  This situation, poppets, is the real deal: the kind of international event that could spell disaster for the world over, a pivotal moment in our time capable of plunging the globe into sustained terrorism and war using non-conventional weapons and tactics.

Strike or no strike, Iran is the enemy we have always feared, and Bush is the catalyst for war and disaster who can easily bring us all to the brink of destruction and world war.  Worse yet, he is just the kind of person who, under such worrisome circumstances, could cause a worldwide nuclear war, although it would likely be one carried out in the most unconventional manner.

As Albert Einstein once said, “I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.”  That is also my sentiment, and I am afraid we are about to find out if such a prognostication is true.
