Nuthin to see here

Kazon went to the vet this morning and returned with nothing to report.  As of this morning, he’s acting fine and energetic and hanging out with the other cats.  His bathroom activities were completely normal yesterday, and they’ve been that way today as well.

Perhaps his upset stomach on Thursday was just a weird hiccup in an otherwise normal week.  Given his current condition, the vets think it was nothing more complicated than a touch of stomach flu or some other bug.

Nevertheless, I’ll keep a close eye on him.  Any relapse or reappearance will result in an immediate trip back to the doctor for further testing and examination.

I’m thrilled, mind you, for quite obvious reasons.  Seeing him back to his normal goofy self today after yesterday’s self-imposed exile and isolation has made me quite happy.  He’s definitely acting like himself again, and he certainly appears to be feeling well.

That’s just how she rolls

A few days ago when sunshine actually fell in Texas (something it hasn’t done for days now), I sat in the bedroom with all The Kids.  We played, we got and gave lots of lovin’, and I snapped photos.  The only one who didn’t bother to grace me with her direct presence was Kako.  She had been sleeping in the cat bed with a blanket of sun draped over her, and every once in a while she’d open her eyes a bit to see what was happening and whether she should actually get up.

She never did.

But what she did do was give us all the occasional “TRYIN’ TO SLEEP HERE!” look that just screamed across the room in visual silence.  In fact, here’s a picture of that look.

You can see Kazon in the foreground hanging out with me, yet it’s that look in the background that says it all.

Did we cave to her brutal demands?  Did we crumble under the onslaught of her selfishness and disdain?

Of course not!  We went right on doing what we were doing, enjoying a warm moment together, and left her to her self-imposed exile and anger.

Later, once the other cats had moved on to nap or eat, she finally got her JLo booty out of the bed and came to see me.  Uh-huh.  I knew she couldn’t resist the need for affection and fun.  Similarly, I also knew she’d get to it on her own schedule.  That’s just how she rolls.

Shadow cat…and strange curiosity

Kazon was sunning himself in the bedroom window when I captured this silhouette of him.  I thought the look was rather agreeable.

But then he got weird.  Well, let me rephrase that.  He didn’t get weird since they’re all weird all the time.  I suppose you could say he just demonstrated his weirdness.

As I sat and tried to get another photo or two of that gorgeous silhouette, perhaps from different angles, he proceeded to let his curiosity get the best of him.  That ruined the shot as you no doubt guessed.

So what was so interesting?

There was nothing there.  Even I looked given his serious investigation.  But it was funny that he was so intent to sniff and look as though only he could see some tiny prey or invisible toy.

My cats are just insane.

Speaking of Kazon

I’m growing a bit worried about him.

Kazon hasn’t been feeling well for a few days, although he’s not so sick as to be debilitated.

He’s had an unpleasant bout of diarrhea that doesn’t make a lot of sense to me.  Nothing has changed in his diet or environment.  More notable: None of the other cats are sick.

The most important aspect of animal health is twofold.  Most importantly is whether or not they’re drinking, and a notch below that is whether or not they’re eating.  He’s doing both with his usual abandon and interest.

So I’m not sure what’s going on.  I suppose it could be a wee bit of a stomach bug.  Then again—and this bothers me most—he might also be picking up on my anxiety and stress, and that could be causing it.

Another side of this is that he’s not acting sick.  He acts like he feels fine.  And he doesn’t have a fever and isn’t losing weight, although a few days isn’t long enough to tell if that will happen.

To prove my point about how he’s acting, here are some photos from yesterday when he climbed on my shoulders and did his usual thing.  That is, he won’t sit still and climbs all over me and interferes with what I’m doing.  It’s all a ploy to get attention, but he gives as good as he gets (the whole time he purred in my ear, gave me kisses, rubbed against me and gave me head butts, and generally curled around my neck and made sure I knew I was loved).

I’m not sure what’s wrong with him, if anything.  I’ll keep a close eye on him to see if the situation gets better or worse.  Financial issues aside, I promise he’ll be at the vet faster than you can say his name if I determine that’s necessary.

Oh, and this whole shoulder thing happened after the video.  As you can see, he always gets what he wants.

[these photos turned out badly because it’s hard to tell what I’m aiming at and focusing on since all I can do is hold the camera out in front of me, aim it as best as possible, and pull the trigger]
